In-class controls and chat

Use your devices, share your screen, and send messages and files

Essential controls

  • Use the bottom controls to turn your microphone and camera on or off
  • Choose screen sharing, then select the screen or window in the browser prompt
  • Open the chat or participants panel from the toolbar — some controls move into the More menu on smaller screens
  • Use hands and reactions to respond, and the whiteboard to explain ideas

Whiteboards and class materials

  1. Open Tools in the bottom toolbar — on smaller screens, select Teaching tools in More
  2. Hosts can enter a board name and select Add page — new pages are presented to everyone; select an existing page and Present to class to show it again
  3. Use Pen, Eraser, and Select — participants with whiteboard permission can also draw; Undo and Redo apply to your own strokes, and only hosts can clear a board
  4. Select Save image in the drawing toolbar to download the current board’s saved strokes as a white-background PNG — this is available to users with drawing permission; controls and selection outlines are excluded
  5. When a host selects Clear, a confirmation dialog opens — only Clear all removes every participant’s strokes on the current page; Cancel keeps the board unchanged
  6. Open Materials to find files shared in chat, or Add material to send an image or PDF — you can also drop one file up to 10 MB into Teaching tools — anyone with screen-sharing permission can use Present to class to show it to participants
  7. The Live label identifies the shared item — opening another item shows Preview; select View presentation to return — opening or adding material alone does not change the participants' view
  8. Back to video changes only your view — while a material presentation is active, select View presentation above the video to return — Stop presenting ends the shared presentation and is available to its presenter or the host

Send messages and files

  1. Open the chat panel and type your message
  2. Press Enter to send or Shift + Enter for a new line
  3. Use the attachment control to add images or documents — up to 5 files per message and 10 MB per file

Host controls

Hosts can admit waiting participants and manage participants from the participants panel — recording is available when included in the host account's plan
